Humboldt, IA – Humboldt City Council approved a resolution at their council session Monday night updating its bicycle laws and adding electric scooters and micro mobility devices to an ordinance.

The new ordinance bans the operation of electric scooters on sidewalks along Sumner Avenue from 8th Street to 4th Street. The scooters can be operated on the roadways of Sumner Avenue through downtown, but must obey all traffic laws. The ordinance comes after several months of complaints regarding scooters not obeying traffic laws within the city. The council waived the second and third readings, with the ordinance set to go into effect Aug. 28

In Dakota City, talks regarding an ordinance are underway.
