Humboldt boys’ soccer draws with Webster City, girls’ win season opener

Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt boys’ and girls’ soccer teams began the week with North Central Conference play against the Webster City Lynx Monday night.

The Humboldt Wildcats boys’ soccer team would battle back late to level the match for a 1-1 draw against Webster City Monday night from Mason Maach Field in Humboldt.

The Wildcats fell behind 1-0 after Webster City’s Jaime Martinez-Andriel scored the first goal of the match in the 14th minute. Humboldt would tie the match in the 76th minute with a Nico Christensen penalty kick.

With the win, the Wildcats are 1-0-1 and will next head to Hampton-Dumont/CAL on Thursday in conference play.

The Humboldt Wildcats girls soccer team won their first match of the year 3-1 on the road at Webster City Monday night.

Gracie Lyon would score in the sixth minute for Humboldt, followed by Kaylee Vincent in the seventh minute. The Wildcats would increase their lead to 3-0 with Ava Gears in the 52nd minute. The Lynx got on the board in the 71st minute with a Janey Putney goal.

The Wildcats are 1-0 on the season and head to Hampton-Dumont/CAL on Tuesday in conference play. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
