Dakota City, IA – With Election Day approaching on Tuesday, November 3, Humboldt County voters have several options and important deadlines to keep in mind ahead of the general election.

The absentee voting process began in August, when Tuesday, August 25, marked the first day voters could submit an absentee ballot request form.

Absentee ballots became available for mailing on Wednesday, October 14. That date also marked the beginning of in-person absentee voting at the Humboldt County Auditor’s Office.

Monday, October 19, was the deadline to submit an absentee ballot request form to receive a ballot by mail. It was also the pre-voter registration deadline. The Auditor’s Office remained open until 5 p.m. that day.

As Election Day gets closer, voters still have a few important opportunities to cast their ballots early.

Upcoming Election Dates and Deadlines

  • Friday, October 30: Last day to submit written challenges to absentee voters. The Auditor’s Office is open until 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 31: The Humboldt County Auditor’s Office is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. for absentee, in-person voting.
  • Monday, November 2: Final day for in-office absentee voting. The Auditor’s Office will be open until 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 3: Election Day.

On Election Day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Voting will take place at designated polling locations only.

There will be no voting available at the Auditor’s Office on Election Day. Voters must report to their assigned polling location to cast a ballot.

Humboldt County voters can find their designated polling location through the Iowa Secretary of State’s website:

With Election Day just days away, voters who have not yet cast an absentee ballot can still vote in person at the Auditor’s Office on Saturday, October 31, or Monday, November 2, before the in-office voting deadline.
