KHBT — Three area schools competed for rights to go to the State Boys’ basketball tournament yesterday and two of the three captured that dream.

Algona Bishop Garrigan and Clear Lake will be trekking to the state capital, while Pocahontas Area fell one game shy of a trip to state.

Garrigan defeated Janesville 56-35 yesterday night in Webster City, with Angelo Winkel leading the way with 12 points and 10 boards.

Clear Lake stormed past Charles City in the second half to secure their trip to state. Freshman phenom Carson Toebe paced the Lions with 24 points in the win, while Drew Enke chipped in with 15.

Pocahontas Area hung tough with Boyden-Hull (22-2) but ultimately fell, 68-56.

Our sister station KLGA will have Garrigan coverage at the State Tournament next week.
