Iowa Farmers Under Pressure Due to Weather

Des Moines, IA — It’s been a tough start to the planting season for Iowa farmers as soggy weather has barred many from getting their crops in the ground.

To apply even more pressure, corn must be planted by May 31st in order to be covered by crop insurance for the month of June. Ag Secretary Mike Naig (R-IA) says that the state just needs a few days in a row of good weather for Iowa farmers to get out and plant.

However, he is worried about the still flooded areas of the states which may not be able to plant crops at all this year which would make them ineligible for the next round of federal farm payments which the USDA announced last week.
