Washington, D.C. — Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) spoke on the Senate floor last week to honor veterans in Iowa, specifically Glenn McDole, of Polk County. McDole was a prisoner of war in World War II and served his state as a member of the Iowa State Patrol and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Ernst said in her speech that she wanted to honor McDole because, like many other veterans, he would often speak lightly of his service or refuse medals or recognition.

McDole passed away earlier this year and was posthumously awarded 13 medals.

Senator Joni Ernst is a combat veteran herself, who served in the armed forces for 23 years.
