Fort Dodge, IA — Next month, Iowans will a chance to help homeless women and children in Humboldt and surrounding areas.

The Lotus Community Project is trying to raise money to expand their operation; and to cover additional expenses related to the renovation of their shelter in rural Webster County. As of now, the shelter serves six counties, offering housing, support, and other resources. Project president Courtney Underwood says there are many ways women and children can end up homeless. She wants to “be there to help them establish safety and somewhere to stay while working to figure out what each individual’s root cause is of their homeless situation.”

The first fundraising opportunity for the Lotus Project is a a succulent make-and-take event – to create “fairy gardens.” It will be held December 6th at River Hops Brewing in Fort Dodge. The project hopes to raise a total of $300,000.
