Humboldt, IA — After a successful 2019, the new Humboldt Rec Center is expected to see another great year in 2020.

Humboldt City Administrator Travis Goedken says when the 71,000 square foot recreational facility opened in December 2018, there were around 800 members. Now there are more than 1,300.

Goedken says he was “confident that the facility would cash flow at 450 members, so to have nearly three times that many is beyond [his] wildest beliefs.”

The rec center was donated by Ken and Marilyn Nielsen, whose grandchildren ran track for Humboldt and have always been invested in athletics.
