Humboldt, IA – The City Council has tabbed current Rec Center manager as the interim Rec Director.

On Monday, March 16, during a meeting of the Humboldt City Council the council motioned and approved a salary adjustment for Paxton Petersen for the position of interim Recreation Director for the City of Humboldt. Petersen is also the manager for the Humboldt Recreation Center.

Goedken says that Petersen had fulfilled the duties of Rec Director since the departure of Chris Shaner over a month ago. It is not the authority of the city administrator to officially approve the pay increase and official title of interim so Goedken brought proposal before the city council to approve. The approval was unanimous.

City Administrator Travis Goedken says that Petersen was the “clear and obvious choice” for the interim position. As the Rec Center Manager, Petersen had worked closely with Shaner in the programming of recreational activities, especially when the programmings were indoors.

Since Shaner’s departure in February Goedken has been working with Alternative HRD, a third party company hire by the city, to write the job description and wage analysis for the Rec Director position. Petersen will remain the Interim Rec Director until the city hires the next full time Rec Director.

At this time there is no clear timeline on when the Rec Director position will be filled permanently.
