Humboldt, IA – The HAAC are hosting their annual photography exhibit on Facebook with community voting and commenting encouraged.

The Humboldt Area Arts Council are still hosting their annual photography exhibit as scheduled with some changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Member of the HAAC Board Jennifer Berte tells KHBT that the exhibit will be entirely online this year.

“In the past we have done this photography exhibit down at the center and people have had to produce a printed photo, framed, ready to hang, gallery style and all that” she says. This year an in person exhibit was not an option due to regulations and the desire to maintain social distancing.

Despite the move to a virtual exhibit, Berte says the council has still received a lot of submissions. “We’re really excited we’ve gotten a lot of submissions, which is fantastic” she says, hoping that it shows people are interested in the exhibit. She even contemplates that the electronic means of submitting photos is easier than printing and framing.

Berte says that it is critical to continue forward with the annual event with everything going on in the world right now. “So many people in our community are stuck at home and they would normally be getting and submitting their work and socializing at the center when they get to view the photos” she says. However, looking on the bright side Berte says she hopes this gives people the ability to received feedback on their work.

Collections of submissions concluded Friday, April 24 and the process of community voting began Sunday, April 26 and concludes April 29. Berte says all photos will be displayed via the HAAC Facebook and community members can like as many as they want. The photo with the highest number of likes will be winner of the contest.
