Humboldt, IA – Wednesday Popcorn to go will be taking a week off to restock and replenish and the hometown theater could not be more grateful of the community.

Every Wednesday for the past three weeks during the COVID-19 shutdowns Humboldt’s favorite movie theater, the Humota, has been opening up to offer popcorn and soda at a discounted price. They have been opening their door for two hours a week so the people of Humboldt could enjoy movie theater popcorn from the comfort of their own home.

Humota Board President Chad Theesfeld says that the response has been so good from the community that a break was required to restock the shelves. He says that the theater has raised about $3,000 dollars over the past three weeks and that they at the theater “thought it was fantastic.” However, a break is needed for the Humota to restock the shelves but Theesfeld says they will be back open.

He says that the results show the value of theater and making things feel a little normal.  “It shows up the theater means” he says when talking about the community and says the theater couldn’t be happier. He says that watching movies at home with some Humota Theater popcorn is a great way to make things feel just a little more normal.

Theesfeld says that the success from just the two hours once a week for three weeks has made the Board of Directors consider expanding the opening. Specifically he talked about the possibility of opening up on Friday’s while the town during Shag the Drag. He says that traffic concerns and strains on stock have been holding the Humota back from this, but they will continue to consider it going forward.

Theesfeld says that the theater has the community to thank for helping them through the rough times. “Shows how much the community supports our little theater and is glad to have us and we’re so glad to have them” he says. He also comments on how it’s not just been the most recent COVID-19 situation but in general the community continues to stand behind the Humota.

Wednesday Popcorn to go at the Humota will be taking a break this week but hopes to resume as soon as April 15. The Humota Theater would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support.
