Humboldt, IA – Humboldt CSD hires a new elementary school principal who cites community and team mind set as an important factor for the district and his hiring.

The Humboldt Community School District Board of Education has announced the hiring of new Taft Elementary School Principal Ryan Fedders. A native of Britt which is located about 50 minutes from Humboldt, Fedders is excited to join a community that he feels is a good fit.

“The first that feeling I had was we’re excited” Fedders says. He says the vibe the got a great vibe from the community and the staff members in the interview. “We felt like it would be a good fit.”

His plan coming in as the new elementary principal is to work in a collaborative manner. “Overall I think the plan that I have coming in is just to work as a team and work collaboratively with those that are at Taft.” He says he plans to talk with those who have been in the district for a while and learn what has worked and where they feel there is needs to be improvements. “Kind of going in with an open mind set and looking for a team effort” he continues.

This minds set echoes similar to new Superintendent Jim Murray, who was a draw to Humboldt for Fedders. “Just seeing his and hear his beliefs on education and how they pretty closely align to mine” he says when asked about the new superintendent. “It was a big selling point to the district” he further elaborates.

Fedders is currently working as a fifth grade teacher at Crocker Elementary School in Ankeny Iowa. While at Crocker he served on a couple of different leadership boards providing him hands on experience in a collaborative setting. He also says that the education he received at Drake University, where he got his Master’s Degree, focused a lot on community engagement. He says these two experiences are a strength he brings.

Ryan Fedders says he is excited for what the community and Humboldt Community School District has to offer. He looks forwards to getting to work and talking with the community as soon as he is able to this summer.
