Humboldt, IA – Memorial Day is a time to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to the United State and remember those who returned and may need assistance.

Today is Memorial Day and is a time to honor those who have lost their lives in service to protect the freedoms of this country. It is also a time to remember all who have served in the armed forces. Veteran and Commander of the local VFW David Lee talks the importance of supporting veterans.

With so many veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other service linked disabilities they can struggle to find work. Lee says that “we need to support [them] and keep them working, keep them busy so they don’t have time to think about what they’ve been through.”

He says there are ways people can help veterans who might be in need of assistance. He encourages everyone to advocate for veterans rights by talking to the local congressmen. “Fight for their rights, for VA rights. Get them to understand that these men and women need help.” He also encourages that anyone who has a job opening strongly consider a veteran.

David Lee does a lot of work with the Veterans Affairs office and encourages any veteran in need to reach out to the office. He says that Dean Ewoldt, the Director of the local VA office, will work to get them all the help he can. “If a veterans suffering or needs help come in and talk to Dean down there.”

This Memorial Day and Military Month David Lee and the VFW remind all to remember those who have served their country and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect her freedoms.
