June 2 polling locations and protocol

Dakota City, IA – There will be limited polling locations and additional public safety measures in place for Humboldt County for voting during the June 2 election.

Next week will be the 2020 Iowa Primary Election. On Tuesday, June 2 voters in Humboldt County will be able to go to a local polling location and cast their ballot. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the process will be a little different this year. County Auditor Peggy Rice helps tell the people what they need to know for the Election Day.

Rice says that this year there will only be two locations on Election Day. One will be located in the northern part of the county in Livermore and the second will be at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds in the City of Humboldt. She says the set up will be exactly the same but more voters will be going through because of the limited number.

Rice says once the voter arrives they will be greeted and ask if they would like to vote from their car. If they choose to vote from their car the elections official will work to provide all the necessary information. If the voter wishes to go into the polling place, they ask they please be wearing a face cover and possibly gloves as well. Additionally, voters not wearing gloves will be asked to use provided hand sanitizer. There will be markers on the floor to help assure social distancing.

“Voting in person may take longer than usual for this election because the process will take longer” Rice warns. She asks that voters be patient and kind to the election workers. “They are here to help you and to make sure the process proceeds as it should” the auditor reminds.

The 2020 Iowa Primary Election will be held on June 2. For more information on the polling locations or the election contact the Humboldt County Auditor’s Office at 515-332-1738.
