Bases load, two hit batter, one walk-off win for the Wildcats

Humboldt, IA – Humboldt High School Baseball wins with a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh inning.

On Wednesday, June 17, the Humboldt Wildcats faced the Lions of Clear Lake at home. The Wildcats took a victory over their NCC rivals, 4-3. The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth when the Lions scored three runs to take a late lead. It was the Wildcats who would have the last laugh, plating one in the bottom of the sixth inning and three in the seventh to complete the comeback. The Wildcats managed to load the bases in the seventh when consecutive batters were hit resulting in the tying and winning run to cross the plate.

Stats of interest:

  • Caden Matson went 1-2 from the plate, drew a walk, an RBI and stole a base.
  • Cade Witzke pitched all seven innings on 90 pitches, four strikeouts and only one ER against his ERA.

The Wildcats are now 1-1 on the season. They will return to action Thursday evening for a road game at Spirit Lake. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
