Humboldt, IA – The cancellation of the Iowa State Fair has minimal impact on the Humboldt County Fair.

The Iowa State Fair might be cancelled but the Humboldt County Fair will occur. Humboldt County Fair Board President Jeff Hasselhuhn says the board continues to take many factors into consideration when making this decision. He also shares how the state fair closure will affect Humboldt County’s Fair and fair contest winners.

This year’s fair queen will not get a chance to compete for state queen according to Hasselhuhn. He refers to this as the “big thing” that is impacted with the cancellation of the state fair will have on the local fair. While Humboldt County will still name a 2020 queen, she will have the reign for a year and not go to state because the Iowa State Fair will not have a queen contest.

However, livestock judging will still occur at the state level for local winners. Hasselhuhn says “livestock is going to be shown and judged at the Iowa State Fair, as far I as I know.” He clarifies that the local winners will get the chance to compete for a state honor. However, the fluidity of the situation could change as the competitions draw closer.

The 2020 Humboldt County Fair is scheduled for July 21 to 27. Fair Board President Jeff Hassellhuhn finishes by saying the fair is doing all they can to assure the safety of those who attend. “We’re trying to be as cautious as we can” he says. He says that no one should feel obligated to attend, those feeling unwell should not attend but welcomes all who wish to attend.
