Humboldt baseball’s season comes to a close at the hands of Gilbert

Gilbert, IA – Humboldt High School baseball falls in the Substate semi-final game to Gilbert.

On Monday, July 20, the Wildcats traveled to face the Tigers of Gilbert in the Class 3A Substate 2 semi-finals. It was a victory for the home team Tigers, final of 8-0. The Wildcats held Gilbert scoreless through two innings before the Tigers scored four in the bottom of the third. Three more got added in the fourth and one more in the fifth completed the scoring. Humboldt was only able to get one hit in 22 attempts at the plate and struck out 10 times.

Key individual stats:

  • Gilbert’s First Baseman Eli Eldred was 2-2 with two RBIs and a walk.
  • Gilbert Pitcher Sam Vanderpool pitched a complete game giving up just one base hit and striking out 10 Humboldt batters.

With the loss in the substate semi-finals Humboldt baseball concludes their season with a 10-7 record. Wildcats secured a second place finish in the North Central Conference by going 4-1 against their conference opponents.
