Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt is going forward with the City Shop Addition Project following the acceptance of a contract.

During the most recent meeting of the Humboldt City Council they held a public hearing and were presented two resolutions to approve to continue the process on the City Shop Addition Project. The public hearing was to discuss the plans for the addition and to address a general public concerns that might be brought forth.

With no general public present and no written complaints brought to the city officials they closed the hearing and moved forward to the two resolutions. The first resolution approves the plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated cost for the project. Some of the specs include an update to the ventilation system and due to the location of the building being a wetland location geotechnical soil correction are required.

The second resolution was to accept a bid and authorizing Mayor Dan Scholl to sign the contract. During discussions City Administrator Travis Goedken says the cost of the project was higher than originally estimated due to the need for the updated ventilation system and the soil work required. He advised council to still approve the project despite it being more than budget for because he didn’t see the cost getting lower next year. Of the three bids the city received, Berte and Sons Construction was the lowest at the price of $249,000

Both resolutions were approved by council as presented unanimously. The City Shop Addition Project is estimated to be completed in March of 2021.
