Humboldt volleyball still perfect after Spencer Tournament

Spencer, IA – Humboldt High School Volleyball takes care of business at a Saturday tournament as they continue their unbeaten record.

On Saturday, Sept. 12, The Humboldt Wildcats volleyball squad took part in a tournament in Spencer. The Wildcats played a total of five matches and won all five to win the tournament.

The first match for Humboldt was against an North Central Conference rival in Algona. Though this was not an official NCC match the Wildcats didn’t take it lightly. It was a two sets to none sweep (21-16, 21-12) for Humboldt who hit .344 as a team. Humboldt also served a perfect match without a service error.

Match two was against West Lyon for Humboldt. It was two sets to one victory for Humboldt (21-17, 19-21, 15-10). The match was hard fought between two teams who had solid offensive numbers. Humboldt’s Deni McDaniel had a double-double with 22 assists and 12 digs to cap of the win from the Wildcats.

Match three for the Wildcats was their second two to nothing sweep (21-12, 21-11) this time over Okoboji. In this match the Wildcats out muscled their opponents by hitting .364 as a team.  Humboldt’s Jori Hajek had a strong individual performance with nine kills on 17 attempts (.471 attack efficiency with one error).

The final two matches of the day for Humboldt were both against Cherokee Washington. In both matches Humboldt dropped the first set but came back to when the match 2-1. Match one’s scores were 17-21, 21-15, 15-9 and it featured a double-double from Hajek who had eleven kills and 10 digs. Match two’s scores were 17-21, 21-9, 15-10.

After the five victories for Humboldt in the Spencer Tournament, Wildcat volleyball is now 16-0 on the season. The next match for Humboldt will be on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 pm. It will be a road game against Hampton-Dumont-CAL and be the second NCC match of the 2020 season.
