Humboldt volleyball makes region finals for sixth straight season

Humboldt, IA – Humboldt High School volleyball takes a straight set win over Greene County to clinch their sixth straight regional finals appearance.

On Wednesday, Oct. 21, the Humboldt Wildcats hosted the Greene County Rams for a Class 3A Region 2 semi-final match. It was a three set to none victory for Humboldt.

The first set score was 25-17. In the set Humboldt jumped out to a quick lead but stalled a little bit near the 23 point mark as the Rams battled back before ultimately falling. In set two the Wildcats and Greene County started close early but Humboldt ultimately dominated 25-11. The third set was no contest as Humboldt led early and often while Greene County seemed to have accepted their fate and seasons end, score 25-9.

A huge part of Humboldt’s success was keeping Greene County’s Brianna Osterson under control. Osterson averages 3.36 kills per set on the season but was held to just eight for the entire set with a -.031 attack percentage.

Humboldt’s own offensive weapons in Jori Hajek (13 kills) and Kendal Clark (10 kills) each did their part in the victory. Defensively Humboldt had eight total blocks with Jayda Hoefer being involved with five block assists. Hajek led the Wildcat’s serving efforts with four of the teams six service aces.

Following the Humboldt victory the have advanced to the regions for the sixth season in a row. The Wildcat’s next match will be on Tuesday, Oct. 27, against MOC-Floyd Valley. The site for this match is still “TBD.”
