Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt is adjusting certain procedures to protect their ability to provide essential city services.

As positive COVID-19 case numbers continue to rise in Humboldt County, the city is seeing the need to adjust things internally to assure they can keep the public safe. City Administrator Travis Goedken says they are being extra cautious to help keep staff healthy.

Goedken says that as a smaller staff, there is little room for losing workers. He says there are currently two employees in the city’s sanitation department. The city administrator says to lose one or both of them at any given time would put the city in a bad place and unable to provide sanitation services.

The biggest change the city is making is staff members will be taking additional steps to assure the virus stays out of their offices. This includes wearing masks whenever they are in contact with the general public while at the office. Goedken says the staff are making mainly minor adjustments as the city already has mitigation efforts in place. Masks are suggested but not required for the public at city facilities.

The city administrator says he feels as though the precautions they are taking are good and important to keep the staff and public healthy.
