Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt County Firefighters Association is looking to use grant fund along with planned bonding through the county to fund new radio equipment.

During the most recent meeting of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors they hear from Scott Thompson. His purpose was to provide an update on where the county’s different fire departments sit on grant funding for their new radio equipment and what the county would need to provide through bond funds.

As previously reported by KHBT new radio equipment for the fire departments were part of the expenses the county included on their recent bond agreements. Each department worked to also grant funding. Thompson says that all of the fire department in the county received some sort of grant funding except for Thor who was ineligible.

The initial estimate of bonding proceeds needed to help purchase the new equipment for the fire department was at $219,000. The newest estimate after discussions with equipment providers has the estimate coming in just below that mark at $218,146.30. Thompson also says there is a chance that could come in even lower.

The next step for the firefighters association is to begin getting the final order together. The county will have to do an official budget amendment to provide the proper procedures when distributing the funds. At this time there is no date for the public hearing to make the amendment but it is expected to occur within 60 days.
