Humboldt boys wrestling crowns two champs, finish second as team at NCC Tournament

Webster City, IA – Humboldt High School boys wrestling puts on a strong showing during the North Central Conference Tournament.

On Saturday, Jan. 23, the Wildcats met up with the other seven team in the NCC for their annual conference tournament. As a team Humboldt finished with 191 points, good for second. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows finished as the top team with 235 points and Hampton-Dumont-Cal finished third with 177 points.

Humboldt had two individual champions with 126 pounder Jase Goodell and 220 wrestler Colten Goodell grabbing their first NCC championships. One Wildcat finished as a runner-up in 138 wrestler Colby Clarken.

Five Humboldt wrestlers finishes third: 106 Jayden Gargano, 113 Dylan Vaudt. 145 Joe Weydert, 152 Jordan Jensen and 160 Fletcher Satern.

Three Wildcats finished fourth: 120 DJ Muir, 132 Dusty Pate and 170 Christian Alcala.

182 wrestler Tanner McKimmey finished fifth and 195 pounder Christian Lee finished sixth to round out the Humboldt wrestlers who made the podium.

With the North Central Conference in the rear view mirror the Wildcats will now have two weeks to prepare for sectionals. Their postseason begins at Spirit Lake on Saturday, Feb. 6.
