Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors are amending an ordinance.

During the most recent meeting of the board on Monday, February 1, they held the second reading of an amendment to Ordinance 67. This ordinance pertains to mail box replacements.

When snow comes and county snow plows are called upon to clear their right-of-ways mailbox can often fall victim to being knocked down by the plow or snow being thrown to the side. As previously written Ordinance 67 states the county would pay to replace a “standard sized” fallen mailbox.

The amendment has changed the wording from “standard size” to “standard mail box.” In other words, if a county plow knocks down a mail box they will replace it regardless of if it’s a larger box. They will not be replacing ornamental or decorative boxes.

The second reading of the ordinance passed following a public hearing with no objections to the change. The third reading was waived so the amendment will go into effect.
