Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt Community School District is looking to update their Code of Conduct.

During the monthly meeting of the Board of Education on Monday, February 15, Activities Director Greg Thomas provided an update on the process to revise the Code of Conduct.

He says that a 14 person team will be involved in the updates to the Code of Conduct. He is confident that they have a good group of different stake holders to form this committee.

Thomas says it’s “worth noting” they are talking about a “comprehensive revision” of the 503.4 Good Conduct Policy. It has been about 18 years since this policy received a large revision and Thomas was on that committee as a coach at the time.

Something talked about in preliminary discussions was prevention according to Thomas. He says there will be consequences for actions but they want to make sure the students have an opportunity to learn from their mistakes.

School Board President Tate Satern will be representing the school board on the committee. Thomas asked if there was any thoughts from the board during the meeting but none were made. He encouraged them to email himself or Satern if they have any suggestions to be discussed by the committee.

The first meeting of this committee to discuss the revisions to the Code of Conduct is expected to be Wednesday February 24.They will meet again the following two and potentially three weeks as well.
