Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt is holding a public hearing to discuss a portion of their property tax levy.

During the most recent meeting of the city council on Monday, February 1, they motioned to set the date for February 15. The purpose of the public hearing is to discuss the proposed maximum property tax dollar levy for the coming fiscal year.

City Administrator Travis Goedken says they are not discussing the whole levy. This is just one small piece. The increase is by about 10 cents to one subgroup.

The publication of a notice as well as the public hearing is required by the state. This policy was recently put in place as a means to make the budgeting process more transparent to the public.

The public hearing is part of the next regularly scheduled city council meeting on Feb. 15. The meeting will begin at 5:30 pm.
