One project closes, another begins on Humboldt County’s secondary roads

Humboldt County, IA – the Humboldt County secondary roads are continuing to see some spring time construction work.

On Monday, April 27, the county’s board of supervisors heard from Engineer Ben Loots on some projects that are about to begin and come to a close. This includes an update on the bridge closed last week and the start of more work.

Bridge 39 on Quebec Avenue is being re-opened. The secondary roads department replaced the wooden deck of the bridge after discovering it had suffered a lot of rotting.

They used four inch boards from salvage of the old deck, a stock pile in Dakota City and by purchasing some from Weidemann Construction out of Dows. They will not be putting rock back on the deck but Loots is looking into the possibility of putting on a skim coat of asphalt to help smooth it out.

Milling work is likely to begin either Wednesday or Thursday on P 29 with the paving possibly starting next week. While the milling and paving occurs traffic will still be allowed through but will only be one way at a time controlled by flagman.

Loots encourages those driving farming equipment try to avoid this area while construction is going on. If it is unavoidable, he recommends working with the construction crew to find out the best time to drive through with equipment.

The Humboldt County Secondary Roads Facebook page will continue to post updates on when construction and traffic altering occurs.
