Humboldt, IA – Paul Mayasich is coming to Humboldt to share his passion of music live with the community.

KHBT 97.7 the Bolt will be holding their 50 Year Anniversary Celebration at 716 Main. The night will feature a live music performance by Paul Mayasich and the PK Mayo Band.

Mayasich is often asked about what his style of music is and he says that is not a question with a simple answer. “I think it’s probably more of a melodic approach to roots music.” There are a lot of different elements that go into his music.

“There’s a big melting pot of things,” the musician elaborates. “You know, people will say well there’s some country aspect to your playing, but it’s black and it’s white and it’s all of these different things. So, I would have a hard time, I think, kind of describing what it is.”

As he developed his own style of playing Mayasich says there are influences of some of his favorite artists. “I like taking the spirit of people’s sounds, mixing them in with what I do.” He uses guitarist Carlos Santana as an example of an artist who influenced him.

“I’m not [Santana], I’m never going to be him, or B.B. or Albert or any of the Kings or, you know, whoever it is that’s like shaping all this stuff for me.”

When Mayasich and the PK Mayo band are playing there will be a lot of different musical influence the audience will hear. “Through the course of a show we’ll cover on everything,” says Mayasich. This includes elements of jazz, country, rock, blues and gospel.

The musician says some of his favorite artists are “wide ranging.” He says “as long as it’s good music. You know, music doesn’t offend people, words do.” While songs can have lyrics that upset people music can be “pretty hard press to find anything bad about it.”

The full interview with Paul Mayasich will preview on KHBT 97.7 the Bolt on Tuesday, April 20, 3:30 pm and Thursday, April 22, 10:20 am. He will be performing at 716 Main on Saturday, April 24, music beginning at 6 pm. He hopes to see the public there.

“If you can come out, come out please. Enjoy some live music. Clear you’re for a while. Forget about things for a few hours. Music is good for that, people miss. It’s the cleansing of the soul, you know.”
