City working to replace downtown street signs

Humboldt, IA – There will be new street signs coming to the downtown Humboldt area.

At this time, most of the streets connected to Sumner Avenue in the downtown area do not have signs to tell motorists what street they are at. City Administrator Travis Goedken says the city is in the process of replacing the signs.

The signs came down during the Downtown Revitalization Project. The city administrator says the committee that helped put together the project specifications wanted to see a more vintage look to the street signs.

The Historic Preservation Commission is currently working with Paul Davis to design custom stop sign posts to assure all posts and signs work together. Goedken says they want to avoid ordering signs now and then have to reorder them after they don’t work with the posts.

At this time there is no date on when those new street signs will be put up.
