Humboldt, IA – On Monday, May 24, Humboldt High School boys’ soccer fell in the second round of the postseason, 2-0, at home against Gilbert.

The match was tightly contested from the start. Both teams would get their chance to score in the first half but the score would remained tied at 0-0 at the break.

The second half would keep that trend. About 10 minutes into the period Humboldt thought they had the first goal on a corner kick but it was called back because of a handball.

Halfway through the second half Gilbert would get the first goal on a penalty kick. The initial shot by Jacob Kautman went high of the cross bar but it was ruled that a Humboldt defender had entered into the penalty area too soon. Owen Kautman took the second attempt, which scored.

The second goal of the game came just moments later. Owen Kautman delivered a pass to the middle of the box that was shot and scored by Zach Holtan.

Gilbert’s Goalie Justin Terry played a good game to preserve the shut out. He made 14 saves in the game.

Humboldt’s season comes to a close with a 15-3 record, a program best. Humboldt Goalie Zach Frideres was named player of the game by KHBT as part of the broadcast coverage.
