Humboldt, IA – The City of Humboldt is planning for more water main work to be done within the city.

During the city council meeting on May 17, the council was presented with an action item to “approve the distribution of Requests for Proposals for the proposed 16th Avenue North Water Main Improvement Project.”

City Administrator Travis Goedken told the council that this stretch is located just off of Highway 169 to the east until it gets to HLT Limited. Essentially it will loop the “dead end” near HLT back to 169.

This will increase the volume of water flow which impacts the water pressure. Goedken says that the complaint is always “not enough pressure” but that really has to do with the volume. Some properties install booster pump, which are not permitted at individual houses per the Department of Natural Resources’ design standards.

There are other areas that city officials will be looking at other areas where similar projects need to be done. This includes near Eagle Ridge. Those projects are in very early discussion phases.

The council approved the distribution of Requests for Proposals for the proposed 16th Avenue North Water Main Improve Project unanimously.
