Humboldt, IA – Public input time at Humboldt City Council meetings will be kept to a time limit for future meetings.

On Monday, June 21, during the meeting of the council for Humboldt they were presented a resolution to approving a City Council Rules of Procedure Policy. While not much will change on how the council will operate, there will be a few changes.

City Administrator Travis Goedken says the biggest change comes to the public input portion of the agenda. Each person who comes to provide comment to council will be limited to three minutes on the floor to avoid excessive debate during a time not designated for it.

Humboldt has not had issues with this in recent history. This resolution has been a “to-do” list item for Goedken and some of his predecessors.

Other details of the resolution include identifying Police Chief Joel Sanders as the Sargent at Arms, or his designated officer, so unruly public could be removed if necessary. It also states that council members must request permission from the mayor before addressing each other or the public.

Goedken says the resolution, in short, formalizes the process. Council approved the resolution.
