Humboldt softball wins big over Clear Lake

Clear Lake, IA – On Thursday, June 3, Humboldt softball beat Clear Lake on the road 12-2.

Humboldt got the scoring early in with Kendal Clark leading off the game with a single. She got scored by Jori Hajek, who got batted in by Reagan Lee as the Wildcats opened the game on three straight hits.

Humboldt added two more runs in the top of the second thanks to RBIs by Clark and Hajek. Humboldt led 4-0 after a scoreless third inning.

Humboldt took control in the fourth inning. They scored seven runs, all with two outs, in the frame. This includes a two run home run from Addie Thompson.

Clark would add Humboldt’s last run in the top of the fifth. With a 12-0 lead going into the bottom of the inning, Clear Lake attempted to prevent the mercy rule in five innings but only were able to add two runs. Final score 12-2.

Humboldt’s Reagan Lee was the winning pitcher. She pitched five innings, giving up five hits, two earned runs and had one strikeout.

Clear Lake’s Ashlyn Fread is credited with the loss. She pitched five innings, giving up eleven hits, nine earned runs and two walks with four strikeouts.

Humboldt’s Clark was 4-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a home run. Hajek had four RBIs on a 3-4 outing with a double.

Clear Lake’s Grace Meyer was 1-2 at the plate with and RBI. Emily Theiss was 1-1 with a double and RBI.

Humboldt’s record is now 4-1 this season and they are 2-0 in the North Central Conference. Jori Hajek was named the Player of the Game by KHBT as part of the broadcast coverage.

The next game for the Wildcats will be Friday, June 4, at home against Ogden. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 pm, following a JV game.
