Webster City, IA – On Monday, July 5, Humboldt baseball lost to Webster City 3-1.
All the runs for both teams came in the first inning. Humboldt led off the top of the first with a double by Caden Matson followed by an RBI single by Cade Witzke.
Webster City got their lead of man, Ty McKinney, on base via a walk. The walk was followed by three consecutive base hits that drove in their three runs.
Both teams’ base runners were kept to a minimum in the last six innings. Both pitchers threw good games and solid defense kept runs of the board.
Witzke pitched the full game for Humboldt. He gave up seven hits, three earned runs and two walks. He struck out three batters in the loss.
Tyler Olson pitched the full game for Webster City. He gave up two hits, two walks and a hit batter. He recorded nine strikeouts in picking up the win.
Matson was 1-3 in his at bats with a double for Humboldt. Witzke’s single was the only other base hit for the Wildcats.
Webster City was led by Devon Stoakes who was 2-2 in his at bats with a walk. Olson recorded two RBIs on a double in his 1-3 performance.
Humboldt’s record is now 17-8 this season and 8-4 in the North Central Conference. Cade Witzke was named the Player of the Game by KHBT as part of the broadcast coverage.
Next for Humboldt will be Manson-NW Webster of Tuesday, July 6. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 pm, following a JV game.
