Young brothers the victims of a murder-suicide in Algona

Algona, IA – The identities of the victims of the July 5 murder-suicide in Algona have been released.

On Thursday, July 7, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and Algona Police Department released the names of the three individuals found deceased at 418 South Harlan Street in Algona. The victims have been identified as six-year-old Logan and three-year-old Seth Phelon.

In addition to the boys, Christopher Phelon, 32, was also found deceased. According to the autopsy and investigation the cause of death for Logan and Seth are the results of gunshot wounds and the manner of death is considered a homicide. Christopher Phelon died as a result of a gunshot wound and the manner of death is being considered a suicide.

The Algona Police received assistance from the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, Algona EMS, the Kossuth County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Kossuth County Attorney’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
