Washington, D.C. – The landmark 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision that effectively legalized abortion in the United States in 1973 has been overturned in a 5-4 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court this morning.
The ruling from the court’s conservative majority said the Constitution does not protect the rights of women to choose abortion, and instead leaves these decisions in the hands of state lawmakers.
The Supreme Court’s ruling marks the most significant change of an established constitutional right in the court’s history.
