Suspect arrested in Fort Dodge robbery and assault

Fort Dodge, IA – A suspect has been arrested in a robbery that took place in Fort Dodge on June 5. The Fort Dodge Police Department released the following press release to the public regarding the arrest this morning:

“On Sunday, June 5 at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the Law Enforcement Center on a report of a robbery. The male victim indicated that while in the 300 block of South 8th Street, he was assaulted and had items taken from his person. As a result of the investigation, 43‐year‐old Fort Dodge resident Jamar D. Brown, has been arrested and charged with the following:

  • Robbery in the Second Degree (C Felony)

Mr. Brown made his initial appearance this morning in Webster County Magistrate Court where he is being held on $25,000 cash‐only bond.

On Tuesday, June 7 at approximately 11 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of North 9th Street to meet with a male who had just been assaulted. When officers arrived, they discovered an injured male and medics with the Fort Dodge Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the incident occurred in the 300 block of South 8th Street. The investigation showed that the victim was struck with a baseball bat several times by Brown and that Brown then took personal items from the victim’s person and fled the scene. As a result of the investigation, and in addition [to the previous charge], Brown has been arrested and charged with the following:

  • Robbery in the Second Degree (C Felony)
  • Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury (C Felony)

Mr. Brown made his initial appearance this morning in Webster County Magistrate Court where he is being held on $30,000 cash‐only bond, $15,000 for each charge. As with all cases, Mr. Brown is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
