Des Moines, IA – A Minnesota author is heading to Des Moines Monday evening for a meet and greet and book signing.

Patti Isaacs, author of The Second Long March, Memoir from a Witness to China’s Transformation, will be reading from her book and taking audience questions beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2023 at Beaverdale Books, located at 2629 Beaver Avenue, Suite A, Des Moines, IA 50310.

Isaacs’ book The Second Long March, Memoir from a Witness to China’s Transformation details how she lived in China in 1981 during the last days of communist economic policies there and returned to that country to live and work again in 2005 after a transformation into a modern area had occurred. She goes into detail in the contrasts experienced by her Chinese friends and their city once that transformation was well underway.

The book covers China’s profound economic and cultural shift from primitive conditions and sluggish government-run institutions to cutthroat capitalism and its accompanying benefits and drawbacks. Through personal stories, it presents Chinese culture and traditions as they have been altered—or not—by radical change.
