Humboldt Co., IA – The Iowa State Patrol, Humboldt Police Department and Humboldt County Sheriff’s office will have an increased presence Wednesday as part of the Rural High Five safety program to curb driver’s from operating while intoxicated (OWIs), distracted driving and seatbelt use in the county.

That is Iowa State Patrol Trooper Paul Gardner, who was at Humboldt High School on Tuesday morning giving lectures to student’s on seatbelt use and safety and allowing students to use the seatbelt convincer, a device that demonstrates riding in a car seat with a seat belt that simulates a crash at 5-10 mph. Trooper Gardner says all four of the fatalities in Humboldt County last year involved some sort of impairment.
