Conditions ripe for fire weather today

(KHBT) – As the temperatures warm up this week, the National Weather Service is warning that conditions are ripe for fire weather conditions.

The NWS says that breezy southwest winds at 15 to 20 mph with gusts 25 to 30 mph, dry surface vegetation, and low relative humidity between 20 and 30 percent will lead to very high fire danger today for much of central Iowa from the midday through the late afternoon. The agency says that any fires that ignite will spread rapidly due to conditions.

The NWS says burning is discouraged under these conditions. You can take care to prevent the start of accidental fires when smoking or operating vehicles around dry vegetation.

In relation to burning in Humboldt County, there is an ordinance in place that requires all open burnings to be called into the Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center prior to starting them.
