Humboldt, IA – A pursuit through multiple counties in north central Iowa ended with no apprehension of the driver.
According to a press release on Tuesday morning at approximately 6:10 a.m., a Humboldt County deputy o a 2012 Chevy 3500 flatbed truck westbound on Hwy 3 in Humboldt driving erratically and making unsafe passes. When the deputy attempted to stop the truck, the driver accelerated and failed to stop.
The pursuit continued westbound on Hwy 3 into Pocahontas County, where just east of the intersection of Hwy 3 and N-65, the truck entered a farm field on the south side of the road to avoid stop sticks that had been deployed by the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office. The truck traveled nearly a mile through soybean and corn fields to the south until becoming stuck and disabled in a dredge ditch northeast of the intersection of 530th St. and N-65 / 290th Ave. A perimeter was set up and drones were deployed, but law enforcement officials were unable to locate the driver due to the thick cover in the corn fields.
After the pursuit, investigators discovered the truck had been reported stolen to the Story County Sheriff’s Office earlier in the morning. The truck was recovered from the dredge ditch by Jergens Body & Alignment from Humboldt with evidence from the truck sent to the DCI Lab in Ankeny for further testing.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office, and the Pocahontas Police Department.
