Dakota City, IA – The Humboldt County Conservation Board has voted to offer the City of Humboldt an opportunity to purchase the Joe Reasoner Dam.
The motion was passed unanimously by the Conservation Board in an attempt to have the city take control of the dam much like the proposal by Rutland Mayor Susie Tillie with the Rutland Dam. In that proposed plan, the City of Rutland would take over ownership of the dam and land around the dam with R.I.V.E.R. Development Group, LLC. (RDG) operating as a betterment committee.
The decision comes after the Conservation Board voted on Sept. 18 to end discussions with the RDG and have conservation director Todd Lee begin soliciting proposals from engineering firms to determine cost estimates for option 2 as well as costs for option three which involved the removal of the reasoner dam and the Rutland dam being added to the mix.
An amendment was mad to the motion on Oct. 2 by excluding the Rutland dam and gifting the dam to the city along with 2.4 additional county owned acres directly north of the dam pending Rutland City council approval and the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors.
As far as the City of Humboldt, there next city council session on Monday may possibly feature an update regarding the latest move by the Conservation Board.
