Humboldt, IA – Humboldt City Council has approved an agreement with Theia Management Consulting to assist in the search for the city’s next administrator following the upcoming departure of City Administrator Cole Bockelmann.

The consulting firm will guide the recruitment process, help identify candidates and assist with interviews. The agreement carries a cost of $18,750.

Council members also discussed creating a committee made up of council members and community stakeholders to help define the qualities they want in the city’s next administrator. Several council members emphasized the importance of finding a long-term candidate to provide stability for city government.

The council also tabled any decision on hiring an interim administrator. City Clerk Amy Zeman said she believes current city staff and department heads can maintain operations during the transition, with council members expressing confidence in the city’s leadership team while the search is conducted.

Bockelmann, who has served as city administrator since his hiring in November 2021, accepeted a Finance Director position with Mason City. The City of Humboldt hopes to begin recruiting candidates in the coming weeks.
