Gilmore City man arrested following pursuit; multiple felony charges filed

Gilmore City, IA – A Gilmore City man is in custody following a multi-county pursuit that began Tuesday night and ended with an arrest Wednesday morning near Gilmore City, according to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say at approximately 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that the wanted individual was located at 49837 340th Street in Gilmore City.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office, and an officer with the Pocahontas Police Department responded to the scene and took 41-year-old Clayton Christian Nielsen of Gilmore City into custody at approximately 10:15 a.m. without incident. He was transported to the Humboldt County Jail.

Nielsen was arrested on a Humboldt County warrant on multiple charges, including three counts of assault on persons in certain occupations while using or displaying a dangerous weapon, criminal mischief in the second degree, interference with official acts causing bodily injury, eluding, and reckless driving. Bond was set at $30,000 cash only.

The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office says additional charges will be filed in their jurisdiction related to the incident.

Assisting agencies included the Iowa State Patrol, Humboldt Police Department, Pocahontas Police Department, Humboldt County Emergency Management (drone operations), Humboldt Ambulance, Gilmore City Fire Department, Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, and Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials thanked all responding agencies and the public for their cooperation during the rapidly evolving situation. Authorities also used the incident as a reminder for residents to keep homes and vehicles locked and to safely secure firearms.

Nielsen is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
