Dakota City, IA – County offices are closing their doors to public traffic in attempt to reduce spread of COVID-19
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors in conjunction with Humboldt County Emergency Management have made the decision to close the county offices to the public effective at 4:30 p.m. on March 17, 2020 to limit the spread of COVID-19. This will continue until further notice. Their goal is to protect the citizens and employees of Humboldt County.
County employees will continue to perform essential county services by appointment.
The decision to close county offices to the public comes after a meeting on Tuesday, March 17, that involved the Board of Supervisors, the department heads for each county office, and David Penton of the Humboldt County Emergency Management.
Penton also works with the Kossuth County Emergency Management. He acknowledged in the meeting that COVID-19 is a fluid situation. He informed the Board of Supervisors that Kossuth County is taking similar steps in order to eliminate walk in traffic to county offices and limit the spread of the virus.
One concerned addressed by County Auditor Peggy Rice was if the county were forced into a “work from home situation”. Rice says that the technology and computer services that works with the county, Solutions, would be more than able to set a virtual workplace. The hope for the Board of Supervisors is that this will not come to pass.
Please contact the Department by phone if you have questions regarding services or to make an appointment.
