Humboldt, IA – The Humboldt Wildcats girls’ soccer team won their third consecutive match to begin the season with a 4-0 victory over Wright County Soccer at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt Monday night.

The Wildcats began the scoring in the 3rd minute when freshman Kaleigh Vinsand scored on a penalty kick. In the 13th minute, Sadie Hubbell found the back of the net to give Humboldt a 2-0 lead. In the 35th minute, Hubbell added her second goal of the match to give Humboldt a 3-0 lead at the half. In the second half, Vinsand would score her second goal of the match in the 65th minute to give Humboldt a 4-0 advantage.

Humboldt Wildcats head girls’ soccer coach Rodd Mooney commented on the win, “Really happy to see how we played in the first half against the wind. We did a really good job of trying to dig the ball out of our side and then forcing the ball to stay on their side. I think we played better against the wind than we did with the wind.”

Mooney liked what he saw on the defensive side, “Defensively, we were pretty focused. I don’t think Laina [Dettmann] touched the ball at all tonight, and that’s a really good sign for us.” Mooney says the offense complimented the defenseive work in the match, “Offensively, I thought we had a lot of really good shots, some that just narrowly missed, and Kaleigh [Vinsand] and Sadie [Hubbell] both got loose for a couple of scores there, which is nice…I think we’re doing some good things offensively. I think our forwards are doing a really good job of working hard.”

With the win, Humboldt improves to 3-0 (3-0 NCC) and will head to Iowa Falls Alden on Thursday.

The Humboldt boys’ soccer team suffered their first loss of the season Monday night to Wright County Soccer at Belmond-Klemme High School, the Wildcats falling by the score of 4-0. Humboldt fell to 1-1-2 and will next host Iowa Falls Alden on Thursday.
