Humboldt, IA – The new superintendent of the Humboldt and Twin Rivers Community School District is introducing himself to students, staff and community members as he prepares to begin his new role.

Ryan Fedders, who previously served six years as principal at Taft Elementary, recently shared a video message outlining his background, his family’s ties to Humboldt and the priorities he hopes to focus on during his first year leading both districts.

Fedders says he is excited to continue building on the work already underway.

“Professionally, I’m extremely proud to work in both the Humboldt and Twin Rivers school communities. We’re fortunate to have dedicated and caring staff members who bring tremendous expertise and a passion for their work each and every day… As I transition into the superintendent role, I’m excited about the opportunity to continue building on the great work already happening in our districts.”

Fedders says one of his first priorities is learning more about every building in the district while strengthening communication with families and the community.

“First, I want to continue building relationships and deepen our understanding of all of our district operations. Second, I hope to continue leveraging social media and communication tools to help tell our story. There’s so much great teaching and learning going on throughout the district, and we’re excited to showcase it all on a greater scale.”

Another focus will be developing a new long-range facilities and educational plan while continuing to strengthen the district’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports, or MTSS, to ensure every student receives the support or enrichment they need to succeed.

Fedders also emphasized his commitment to maintaining an open-door policy and encouraged community members to share ideas, questions and feedback as the districts continue moving forward.

“I want all of our stakeholders to know that I believe strongly in maintaining an open-door policy. Your ideas, feedback, questions and suggestions are always welcome. I’m excited about the future of Humboldt and Twin Rivers and I look forward to serving alongside all of you.”

Fedders officially begins his first school year as superintendent this summer after succeeding former superintendent Jim Murray, who retired at the end of the 2025-26 school year.
