Webster City, IA – Two people are dead following a wrong-way crash Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 20 near Webster City.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a report shortly after noon of a white pickup truck traveling east in the westbound lanes of Highway 20 after entering the highway at the Webster City exit.
Law enforcement officers from the Webster City Police Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to locate the vehicle. Before officers could reach the area, the pickup collided head-on with a westbound vehicle.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved, pending notification of family members.
The crash remains under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol and other emergency responders.
