Clarion, IA – Motorists traveling between Clarion and Goldfield will have two more weeks before a major highway closure begins.
The Iowa Department of Transportation announced on Thursday that the closure of Iowa Highway 3 at the Eagle Creek bridge will now begin Monday, July 20, instead of the previously scheduled July 6 start date. The project is expected to continue through Nov. 15, weather permitting.
According to the Iowa DOT, the start of construction was delayed because of a supply issue involving a key material needed for the bridge replacement.
During Monday’s Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting, supervisors discussed the upcoming project and noted the lengthy closure, which is expected to last until November.
While the highway is closed, motorists will follow a signed detour:
- South approximately five miles on Wright County Road R-33.
- East about 10 miles on Wright County Road C-54.
- North about five miles on U.S. Highway 69 back to Iowa Highway 3.
The Iowa DOT is reminding drivers to slow down, obey posted speed limits and watch for workers and equipment in the construction zone. Traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in Iowa work zones, and motorists are encouraged to stay alert, leave extra following distance and always wear seat belts.
