Kiwanis Christmasland prepares to open for the holiday season Friday Nov. 25th. This marks the 40th year of this popular holiday attraction sponsored by the Humboldt/Dakota City Kiwanis Club. It has been visited by more that 150,000 people since its opening in 1982.
For 2022 there will be some new items and updates but lots of the traditional favorite scenes that people have come to know and enjoy year after year.
The Kiwanis club wants Christmasland to be a safe and fun experience for all.
Christmasland is located directly south of the Humboldt City Hall at 407 1st Avenue South. It is one block south of the Humboldt Law Enforcement Center the one-half block east.
Kiwanis Christmasland will be open the following hours for the 2022 season:
Friday and Saturday November 25th and 26th – 2:30-4:30p.m. and 6:30-8:30p.m.
Sunday’s – 2:30-4:30p.m.
Friday’s – 6:30- 8:30p.m.
Saturday’s – 2:30-4:30p.m. and 6:30-8:30p.m.
Monday – Friday Dec. 19th-23rd 6:30-8:30p.m.
Thursday Dec. 22nd – Dec. 24th only 2:30-4:30p.m.
Christmasland will be closed for inclement weather. Notification will be posted outside and via the Humboldt-Dakota City Kiwanis Facebook page. The Kiwanis Club has never charged admission to Christmasland; however donations are appreciated as they help the exhibit grow.
Then at the end of the visit is Santa Claus he will give all good girls and boys a candy cane after their visit.
Christmasland will be open by arrangement for group tours. Call Dave Lee at (5150 890-0116 to schedule a day and a time. All school groups, nursing homes, group homes, church groups, businesses and civic organizations are welcome, but special arrangements are limited, so call ahead.

Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt will be having a Christmas Dinner on Sunday December 25 from 11:30 – 1:00 dine in or take out. The meal will be Turkey, pork loin, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, cranberry relish, and desserts. This will be a Free Will donation, to sign up call the church office 515-332-2083 by Dec. 21st.
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Humboldt County Democrats will hold a food drive to support the Humboldt County Food Pantry Monday, January 16.
Food drive collection will be 8am – 7pm at the Fareway Grocery Store in Humboldt. Shoppers are invited to donate non-perishable items.
Non-food items needed: shampoo, body wash, deodorant, dish soap, laundry soap, paper towels, toilet paper, all purpose cleaner.
Food items MOST needed: canned fruit, canned meat, jelly/jam, syrup, pancake mix.
The Humboldt County Food Pantry is operated by Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc.(UDMO). Cash donations will also be welcomed. 100% of donations will go to the food pantry.
If you can’t make it to the food drive, you may make a monetary donation to the Humboldt Ministerial Association write “Food Pantry” in the memo. Mail your donations to Humboldt Ministerial Association, PO Box 40, Humboldt IA 5548.
Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s 19th Annual Founder’s Event will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023. Social Hour plus a sit-down dinner and cash bar starts at 6pm with the Feature Entertainment Song Blast -Dueling Guitarist, Glen & Pat delivers, laughter, participation, interaction, comedy, charm, mischief, energy and rock. Saint Mary’s Catholic School would like to invite you to their Early Childhood Open House on Tuesday, January 31st. From 3:30- 5:30pm come tour the classrooms, meet the teachers, and gather enrollment Information, then at 5:30pm a short informational parent meeting on financial aid and how to enroll your child. If your child is Pre School, PreK, or Kindergarten make time to come this Open House.
St. Mary’s will be holding a Soup Supper Feb. 1st from 5:30 -7pm at the St. Mary School Gym. They will be serving Chili and Chicken Noodle Soup with a cinnamon roll for a free will donation. Humboldt/Webster County Pheasants Forever 14th Annual Coyote Hunt/Raffle will be Saturday February 4th. Registration will be Friday February 3rd from 6pm–9pm, locations for registration: Red Lantern in Bode, Creekside@ Lizard Creek, Flipside in Luverne, Knotty Pine in Humboldt, Blue Moose in Renwick, Nuts Landing in Rutland, Peps in Algona, and Knuckleheads in Badger. All registered participants are encouraged to attend a free meal at 6:30pm at Humboldt Fairgrounds with raffle following the meal, 20 Guns will be drawn(need not be present to win). Humboldt Community Chorus Presents “One in Harmony” on Friday, Feb. 10th at 7pm, Sat. Feb. 11th at 2 & 7pm, then on Sunday Feb. 12th at 2pm. On the 21st, Learn about Finances, Cash flow, breakeven, crop insurance, net worth and borrowing.
On the 28th it will be on Taxes, Social Security, Beginning farmer tax, Iowa tax credit, depreciation and FSA options
and then on March 7th the session will be Transition planning. Transfer of machinery, communication, family living expenses and crop share, rent contracts.
